What Residents and Families Tell Us
These are genuine accounts, shared in conversations with our team and in written messages from families.
Wong Lai-Yee
Daughter of resident, Sha Tin
When my mother first moved in, she was quite uncertain about the whole thing β she had lived independently for a long time. Within about two weeks, something shifted. She started mentioning the people she had met at tea time, talking about the kitchen staff by name. I visited in the fifth week and she seemed more herself than she had in years.

Chan Kwok-Fai
Resident, Full Comfort Package
The cooking here is what I notice first, every morning. It is real Cantonese food β the kind my late wife used to make on weekends. That matters more than I expected. The staff do not make you feel like you are being looked after, which is exactly right. You feel looked after, without the fuss of it.

Lau Man-Yee
Son of resident, Kowloon Tong
We spent a long time looking at different options. Many places had brochures that looked good but felt institutional when you visited. Ming Yuet was the opposite β quiet, well-maintained, and the staff clearly knew the residents. The only thing I would say is that it takes a little time to learn the rhythm of the place. Once you do, it really is a good environment.

Yip Pui-Kwan
Resident, Dining & Tea arrangement
I am not a full resident β I come for the meals and afternoon tea. I live not far away in Sai Kung town and this suits me perfectly. The dim sum sitting in the afternoon has become the best part of my day. There are five or six of us who sit together regularly now. It is very social without being forced.

Tam Pui-Shan
Daughter of resident, Clear Water Bay
The gardens were the deciding factor for us. My father spent much of his life outdoors and we were worried that a residency would take that away from him. At Ming Yuet he is in the courtyard most mornings. He has been helping with some of the planting β which I have to say I did not expect. He seems genuinely content.

Ho Wai-Lun
Resident, Full Comfort Package
I moved here after my son's family relocated to Singapore. I was not sure how I would manage being the newcomer, but the team was very thoughtful about introducing me to people gradually. The welcome host sat with me at the first few meals and helped smooth things along. Seven months in now β I would not want to leave.

From Uncertainty to Settled Life
Three Accounts of How Residents Found Their Place Here
Each story reflects a different path to Ming Yuet and a different way of making it home.
The Situation
Mrs. Lau, 77 β Widowed, Living Alone in Sai Kung
After her husband passed, Mrs. Lau was cooking for one and eating alone at every meal. Her daughter, visiting weekly from Kowloon, noticed she was losing interest in food and becoming more withdrawn over several months.
What Changed
Mrs. Lau joined the Dining & Tea House arrangement in January 2025. Within three weeks she was having a regular tea-time companion she looked forward to seeing. By February her daughter noticed she was eating more and seemed considerably more engaged in conversation during visits.
Six Months On
Mrs. Lau later added garden access and now spends mornings in the courtyard before lunch. Her daughter shared: "She has started talking about the people she has met here the way she used to talk about neighbours when she was young."
The Situation
Mr. Cheung, 82 β Relocated from the Urban Centre
Mr. Cheung had lived in Mong Kok his whole adult life. His family had tried two other residences before Ming Yuet. Both felt too clinical, too loud and too far from anything he recognised as normal daily life. He was reluctant to try a third option.
What Changed
Mr. Cheung's family visited Ming Yuet for a morning tour and stayed for lunch. Mr. Cheung remarked that the food tasted correct. He moved in on the Full Comfort package the following month, and his welcome host spent time over the first two weeks learning his routines and preferences.
One Year On
Mr. Cheung has become one of the more regular presences at the afternoon tea table. His son notes: "He phones me less to complain and more to tell me what he had for lunch. That might sound small, but for him it is a significant change."
The Situation
Mrs. So, 71 β Seeking Community After Retirement
Mrs. So was still active and entirely independent, but her Sai Kung neighbourhood had become quieter as younger families moved out. She was not looking for care β she was looking for company and a reason to get up and go somewhere each morning.
What Changed
Mrs. So started with garden access, joining the morning walks. She describes the first few weeks as a pleasant surprise β a community built around similar people with similar preferences for a slower morning rather than intense structured activity.
Now
Mrs. So added dining to her arrangement and has since introduced two friends from outside who now also join for tea. "I found the right pace here. I have not once felt pushed into anything or left to manage entirely on my own."
